Time Capsule Wedding Guest Book

The guest book is a nice idea, a reminder of all of the special people who joined in your wedding celebration. The standard book, however, is not particularly dynamic, and is likely to end up gathering dust on a shelf rather than being enjoyed on a regular basis. A really fun alternative to the traditional guest book is to have your guests create a time capsule for the newlyweds. Here is what you need to know about this unique idea.

The basic concept of a time capsule is that it is a collection of ideas or things which are put away to be re-opened at some set date in the future. So how does this translate into a wedding guest book? Set it up so that your guests are the ones putting something away for you and your spouse to enjoy together in the years to come. Opening your time capsule will be something really fun to look forward to sharing over the years of your marriage.

Designing a wedding time capsule need not be complicated. One of the simplest versions is one which requests that guests write messages to the bride and groom which will be opened on certain milestone wedding anniversaries, such as the 1st, 5th, 10th, and 25th. The guests could write down a wish for the couple or make a prediction about what they will be doing on those anniversaries. This can get really fun, so encourage everyone to be as creative as they like.

To make a time capsule guest book, set up a table near the entrance to your wedding reception. Set out colored pieces of paper, each of which can be designated for a specific anniversary, ie, 1st is yellow, 5th is blue, and so on. Put out attractive vessels of some sort with each year listed so that the guests can drop their notes into the appropriate collection. A brief note with instructions on the time capsule can be placed into a standing frame on the table. In keeping with the time capsule theme, display a series of photos of the bride and groom over the years, starting with infancy, and working up to a picture of them in all of their wedding attire and jewelry.

Think about how much fun it will be to crack open the time capsules for each specified anniversary. Not only will you get to take a look at the predictions and see which ones came true, which ones did not, and which ones are just plain hilarious, but you will be reminded of the people who were at your wedding. Over time, it is natural that people can drift apart, so how nice to bring up memories of them over the years. And imagine some of the notes you are sure to get: 1st anniversary: happily married with newborn twins, 5th anniversary: owners of a yak farm, 25th anniversary: Nobel Prize winners. There is no limit to what you may read in your time capsule!

If you want to make it even more fun, think about planning a special ritual for the years when you open your time capsule. You could go as far as putting on the bridal gown and tuxedo that you wore on your wedding day, if you want to go all out. A simpler version would be to wear your wedding jewelry and pore over your wedding photo album when you open the time capsule. However you choose to do it, this unique version of a guest book is sure to be one of your favorite wedding memories.
